Nigerian President approves posting of ambassador appointments

(MENAFN) On Thursday, Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu authorized the posting of four ambassador-designates, selected from the 67 nominees previously confirmed by the Senate in December.

According to reports, Ayodele Oke was confirmed as ambassador-designate to France, while Colonel Lateef Are was named ambassador-designate to the United States. Additionally, Amin Dalhatu, who previously served as ambassador to South Korea, was appointed high commissioner-designate to the United Kingdom, and Usman Isa Dakingari Suleiman, a former governor of Kebbi, was designated ambassador to Türkiye, coinciding with Tinubu’s scheduled state visit there next week.

“In a memo to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, President Tinubu urged the ministry to notify the governments of the four countries about the ambassador-designates, in accordance with diplomatic procedures,” the statement added.

Of the 67 ambassadorial nominees confirmed last December, 34 are career diplomats who have progressed through the ranks, while the remaining 33 are non-career appointments, often selected for specialized expertise or political considerations.
