NOTICE – Recount of Legislative District 42 State Senator Contest
With certification of the August 4, 2026 Primary Election complete, the 2nd and 3rd place candidates for Legislative District 42 State Senator is separated by 4 votes (see certified election results below).
This falls within the parameters of a mandatory recount. At the request of the Washington Secretary of State, the Whatcom County Canvassing Board has directed the election staff of the County Auditor’s Office to conduct a hand recount in accordance with RCW 29A.64.021 and WAC 434-264-110.
The recount will begin on Tuesday, August 25 at 8:00 am. It will be held in the Election Center, located in the Whatcom County Courthouse at 311 Grand Avenue, Suite B3, in Bellingham. The recount is open to the public, and observers are welcome. Space is available for 10 observers at one time, on a rotating basis if necessary (WAC 434-264-030).
The results will be certified by the Whatcom County Canvassing Board at the conclusion of the recount. The date and time of the certification will be posted to the Auditor’s website at https://www.whatcomcounty.us/Elections
