Legislative Session Ahead: Know Your Voice
October 19 2026
Nevada’s 2027 legislative session is approaching, and whether you’re a faculty member, staff member or student, understanding how decisions are made in Carson City and how to engage with elected leaders matters.
CSN’s Faculty Senate Legislative Advocacy Committee is offering two virtual training sessions this month to help the campus community prepare for the upcoming session.
Led by Dr. Sandra Cosgrove, the sessions will focus on legislative advocacy, including how to communicate effectively with elected officials, understand appropriate advocacy practices and participate in the legislative process.
And here’s the important part: These sessions are open to everyone at CSN!
All employees are encouraged to attend the faculty/staff session, including classified staff, administrative faculty and anyone interested in learning more about the legislative process. Tell your students there’s one for them too!
With the legislative session just months away, this is an opportunity to better understand how higher education issues are addressed at the state level, what employees can and cannot say when advocating and how to approach conversations with lawmakers.
You don’t have to be a political expert or have any previous advocacy experience.
